San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral will receive 65,000 dollars to photovoltaic panels, informs Environmental News Network. Pacific Gas and Electric (PG & E) will finance this investment. The mayor Gavin Newsom said that this project will help San Francisco to become the greenest city from the United States.

Nancy McFadden, vice-president of PG & E, considering that this investment is still a proof of the company’s desire to promote photovoltaic panels and to demonstrate that energy efficiency and renewable energy take place also in the older buildings.

Understandings between Grace Cathedral and PG & E has been possible due to the priest initiative Sally Bingham, president of the California Interfaith Power and Light organization. This group is based on the idea that there should be a religious response to the problem of global warming.

The system will be designed and implemented by SolarCity from FosterCity and will be ready in this autumn.
